SWIM LOUISIANA FINISHES 11th AT 2008
LOUISIANA STATE CHAMPS, GIRLS TAKE 9th PLACE OVERALL
A new attitude, a new philosophy, and some hard decisions. That's what it took for our State Level Swimmers to end up with our best ever finish and team record 594 point total. Since March 30, 2008 the National Prep and Senior Groups, as well as Coach Andy's Gold Group have been working at a new level, with a new focus. All of that hard work paid off in the end as Swim Louisiana not only hosted one of the finest championships in state history, but swam incredibly well while hanging in with some very big clubs. We also left some bigger clubs in our dust as our swimmers didn't back down for a single race and reached a new level of excellence for our club.
By the numbers, Swim Louisiana was the 13th largest team with just 21 swimmers. There were 13 teams who had more entries than us going into the meet. By comparison, Crawfish Aquatics (who won the meet) had 71 swimmers and 340 entries compared to our 21 swimmers and 67 entries. At the Short Course State Champs back in March of 2008, SWIM took 30 athletes and had 81 entries...where we ended up 14th with 453 points. In July of 2007 at the State Meet in Monroe, SWIM took just 14 swimmers but had 69 entries...and we ended up 15th with just 313.50 points. At the 2007 Short Course State Championships at LSU, we had 21 swimmers (identical to this meet) and had 61 entries. We swam to 16th place at that meet, ending up with 320 points overall. This season was similar to our 4 previous championships, so how did we improve so much? We took 21 swimmers, had 67 entries and scored 594 points. That's 150 points more than we have scored at any of the last 4 state meets!
Of the 67 swims we had, 41 swims ended up in the Top 16 of the State. That's an astounding 61% of our swims!!! Of the 67 swims that we had, 50 swims were lifetime best times...or 74.6%!!! Again, a team record for Lifetime Best Times at a Championship Meet. We raced, we raced hard, and we worked our #$@# to be prepared for this meet.
Swimmers who are reading this need to understand this from two or three points of view. If you are a swimmer who can look in the mirror and say, "Yes, I bought into the new mentality, did what I was asked, and had a great two week run between Austin & State" then you my friend are in for even more results during the short course season. If you are that same person but fell short at state...it's likely MY fault for resting you either too little (I felt some girls needed to rest about 2 days sooner,) or too much (I felt that I rested all of the boys about 3 days too much.) Bottom line is that you did the BASE work, had the consistent attitude, earned the right to swim fast and will be PAID in full during the short course season (as long as you continue to work at this level). If you look in the mirror and can honestly say that, "No, I didn't give this season 100%, can do better and need to fix this or that," then here is the proof on why you should! Even if you swam great at the last two meets, you STILL could have swam EVEN faster! You will never get to the next level if you don't do something you have never done! Consistently bad habits will always produce consistently mediocre results. Some good, some ok, some bad. You wanna have the SUPER MEET, well it begins with Day #1 and continues until you walk into the site of the 2009 Short Course State Meet!
GREAT JOB EVERYONE ON AN AWESOME SEASON, AN AWESOME MEET AND AWESOME RESULTS!
